RaytheNihilist is an Award-nominated Indigenous Hip Hop artist representing the Blood Tribe.
Blending rap with elements of storytelling and Indigenous culture. His music draws on themes of resilience, identity, and the complex experiences of being Indigenous in modern society. He aims to use his work to inspire youth who might feel disconnected from their culture, offering a voice that acknowledges both struggles and strengths.
By integrating language revitalization and traditional themes into modern hip-hop, his goal is to contribute to the cultural environment by making it accessible and relevant to younger generations, offering a new perspective on Indigenous identity.
As an artist, Ray is dedicated to creating impactful and healthy spaces through art and music. His songs and performances often draw on themes of resilience, identity, and the complex experiences of being Indigenous in modern society.
Ray has been known to merge powerful lyrics with smooth, self-produced instrumentals that often carry the song perfectly. So far in his catalog, Ray holds three E.P.S and various singles. Most recently releasing his I’ve Been Doing Good EP on August 4th, 2023, a five-song Extended Play Project that was well received. In October 2024, Ray began recording his debut Studio Album that is set to feature other prominent Indigenous artists. The first single, Lose My Grip feat. Travis Thompson & Natasha Fisher is going to be released on Nov 22nd, 2024!
In the past two years, Ray has seen monumental career development. Consistently being found performing on the road, in 2022, Ray was brought on Junk’s “Lions Eat Goats” tour. Since then, Ray has done three Self-Headlined Western Canadian tours since July 2023 and is currently booking a Cross-Canada run in 2025 as well as multiple all-ages performances, motivational presentations, workshops, etc.
Other notable achievements include a 2021 SaskMusicAwards Nomination for the Hip Hop Artist of the Year and in 2024, Ray was nominated by the Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Association for a Fans' Choice Award at the Saskatchewan Indigenous Music Awards.
